MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry of Rhenium Organometallics

To date, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) has been mainly applied to biomolecules and polymers. We have successfully determined the masses of a series of organometallic rhenium cations and neutrals using delayed extraction in the reflectron mode. The rhenium-containing ions were easily identified by their characteristic isotope patterns, and the cationic complexes gave the most easily interpreted spectra. Spectra were obtained both with and without matrix. Mass spectra will be presented for a range of compounds including those whose structures are shown below.
