Connecting using an External Internet Service Provider

All the configuration settings for such services are provided by the ISP, who must also provide helpdesk facilities and deal with platform specific questions.

In general, ISPs come in three types;

  1. those with fairly high monthly charges, who also normally provide a high level of reliable service,
  2. those with no monthly connection charges, with a lower level of service. You have to pay the telephone charges
  3. those with no monthly charges who provide a free telephone number for access. One might expect the least service help from this category.
