Dr Bates:
Congraturation for the finding of the new type of formal intramolecular
migration of the sulfoxide oxygen.
You claimed the steric compression is neccesary. I think the orthogonal
angle of the two aromatic ring causes the intedraction between the pai-
system of the pyrrole and the electrofugal orbital of sulfur and this
might be the origin of your reaction.
You may detect some abnormal spectroscopic properties reflecting this
interaction. Did you see any abnormality in 13-C NMR, UV, and others ?
