5-Bromo-2-aminopyrazine reacted with various types of alkynes in the presence of CuI to form 5-substituted 2-aminopyrazines which could be converted to functionalized alkyl substituents.
3,5-Dibromo-2-aminopyrazine yielded alk-3-ynyl or dialk-3,5-ynyl derivatives under the conditions using 1 equiv. and 2-3 equivs. of arylstananes, respectively.
