Starting from the kinetic theory of gas, simple calculations are used to
illustrate the difficulty for keeping organometallic catalysts free of poisoning.
The goal of this demonstration is to point out to the student arriving in an organometallic
laboratory some of the basic difficulties in performing chemical reactions under
strictly air and water free conditions.
