TTX is weight for weight:
- 10 times as deadly as the venom of the many-banded krait of SE Asia
- 10 – 100 times as deadly as the venom of the black widow spider
- More than 10,000 times as deadly as cyanide
It has the same toxicity as saxitoxin which causes paralytic shellfish poisoning. Interestingly, saxitoxin and TTX are molecular mimics of one another.
