All references indicated
by the red flower () in the pages
have been compiled using the following search engines. More information
was hence gathered by following up on the journal names that have been
found.
1. Keyword-based general
Bibliographic searches:-
-
Libertas
system with the Imperial College library database. Search strings:
melatonin, pineal gland and relevent journal reference names.
-
Science Citation Index database
using the Bath Information Delivery System or BIDS
ISI. Search string: melatonin. Results: some primary references
about melatonin dated back until 1981.
-
Beilstein
Crossfire. Search strings: melatonin, C13H16N2O2.
Results: Beilstein Registry No.of melatonin= 205542, structure of melatonin
and relevent journal references for related chemical reations. It is the
main search used for the liturature references in this project.
-
Cambridge
Soft Chemfinder System. Search string: melatonin. Results: little
information about melatonin found.
-
Internet based search engines
such as Altavista, Hotbot
, Yahoo , Lycos
, and Infoseek. Search strings used:
melatonin, melatonin+synthesis, melatonin+pineal, melatonin+structure,
melatonin+antiaging. Results: although little chemical information was
available on the internet, many articles concerning the effects of melatonin
on animals and humans as well as documents on melatonin and its relationship
with the pineal gland were found.
-
ISIS
Draw / ISIS Base. This gives relevent chemical reaction of melatonin.
Search strings used: structure of melatonin is drawn using ISIS Base and
the run the search for conformation of melatonin into other compounds using
ISIS Draw.
